You should always keep away from fire, lion cubs. If you want to know why, ask Hippo.

Why Hippo has no Coat is a story from the Rafiki Remembers magazine collection. It was published in the 1990s as part of The Lion King: A Nature Fun and Learn Series.

Synopsis

Hippo accidentally steps on his friend, Rat, but does not apologize. Swearing revenge on Hippo, Rat tells his friend that he frequently invites Fire to his house, and Hippo jealously goes to Fire himself and insists that he visit his house as well.

After Fire agrees to this, Hippo returns home and gets his house ready for Fire's visit. The next day, he awakens to a ruckus outside and sees Fire appearing over the horizon. As he steps forward to greet his friend, Hippo's coat catches on fire, and he is forced to jump into a river to put it out. There, he stays, even to this day, too embarrassed to let other animals see his nakedness.
