Be good to your friends, lion cubs. You never know when you will need them.

We All Need Friends is a story from the Rafiki Remembers magazine collection. It was published in the 1990s as part of The Lion King: A Nature Fun and Learn Series.

A father reedbuck is considerably overprotective of his beautiful daughter and threatens anyone who so much as looks at her, despite his daughter's frequent protests. One day, a python swallows the reedbuck's daughter whole, and the reedbuck chases the python all the way to the river's edge, but to no avail.

In a panic, the reedbuck begs the other animals for help, and, not ones to bear grudges, they come to his aid. The giraffe, famous for drinking, laps up all the water in the river, and the rhino digs up all the mud at the river's bottom. Seeing no sign of the python, the elephant reaches down a hole and tugs him to the surface, where he is held down by the crocodile and pounced on by the lion. Unable to hold on any longer, the python releases the reedbuck's daughter from his mouth, and she leaps to safety. From that day onward, the reedbuck valued his friendships.
