Warthogs are omnivorous swines that are closely related to pigs, boars, and hogs. They eat meat, something considered when the designers for Timon and Pumbaa decided to put the two together stating they "took some great measures" to make their friendship work.

The warthog is a durable animal. Males weigh 20-50 pounds more than females, but both are distinguished by their disproportionately large heads and “warts” which are protective pads that appear on both sides of the head. The warthog's large tusks are unusual: The two upper ones emerge from the sides of the snout to form a semicircle; the lower tusks at the base of the uppers are worn to a sharp cutting edge. Prick-like bristles cover the warthog's body, although longer bristles form a mane from the top of the head down the spine to the middle of the back. The long tail ends with a tuft of bristles. The warthog characteristically carries its tail upright when it runs like a tiny flag.

Pumbaa is the only warthog character in any of the Lion King films. He serves as a comedic protagonist alongside his friend Timon.

There are implied to be more in the Lion King 1 1/2, as Pumbaa was revealed to be an outcast like Timon when the latter asks if he's 'All alone in the big empty world'.

In The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, two warthogs can be seen during "He Lives In You", next to two rhinos. [1]

Other WarthogsEdit

  • Growler was a rival of sorts for Pumbaa.
  • Growler's Mother however, welcomed him with an open heart and mind
  • The Chief Warthog leaders the aforementioned characters sounder alongside Growlers mother. Presumably he is the father of the young hog.
  • Uncle Boaris is Pumbaa's Uncle from the Timon and Pumbaa show.

TriviaEdit

  • In Real life, a Warthog would probably eat a meerkat as they are omnivorous - they eat anything.
    • However, there have been a few photos showing a real life meerkat and warthog together.
  • Many Warthogs make appearance in the Hakuna Matata Magazine Series. The most notable group is Growler's Sounder.
