I don't know why they changed it, but i believe they kept it(and his reltion to Scar) as a plot device. Nuka was jealous some lion not sired by Scar was taking a place he felt was rightfully his, as he WAS Scar's son. I do have proof confirming Scar and Zira are mates, which basically nods 'yes' to my claim Nuka and Vitani are full siblings via Scar and Zira: [1]

Nunka doesn't mean anything in SWAHILI and all the names in TLK have African origin(except Banzai, but his name could be a variation of Banza, which means lurk). So yeah, it's probbly spelled wrong.
