|The Flying Lion (Rafiki Remembers)|
1995 – 1997
If you had been born long ago, lion cubs, you might have had wings. Let me tell you how the lion lost his wings.
Lion is an accomplished hunter who uses his wings to hunt and always leaves the bones of his prey unbroken. He keeps these bones in a neat pile that is always guarded by two strange white birds.
One day, Frog hops by the pile and volunteers to watch the bones so that the birds can stretch their wings. The birds agree to Frog's offer and fly off, but the moment they're gone, Frog breaks every bone in the pile. When the birds return, they yell at Frog that they will get into trouble for this, and Frog is forced to escape into his pond.
Meanwhile, Lion struggles to fly while hunting. He soon realizes that something must have gone wrong back home and hurries back to his pile of bones. Upon seeing all the bones lying in a broken heap, he attempts to kill the birds for failing to protect them, but they simply fly away. He then turns his wrath on Frog, but the nimble amphibian escapes him every time. Finally, Lion is forced to admit defeat and begins to hone his skills as a land hunter.
