"Stampede" is a musical piece composed by Hans Zimmer for The Lion King. It is the underscore that plays during the stampede.

"Stampede" was first released as part of The Lion King (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) in a remixed format. This version of the track is titled "...To Die For (Score)" and serves as a combination of "Stampede" and its counterpart, "Mufasa's Death". "Stampede" in its entirety was published as part of the complete film score, though the album was retracted after one day. On June 24, 2014, The Legacy Collection: The Lion King was released, with "Stampede" having been remixed and released under the same title, "Stampede".

This version of "Stampede" does not include the entire composition heard in the finalized version of the score. Instead, the score picks up at the start of the stampede scene and concludes with the musical flourish heard as Mufasa dies. The music played as Simba mourns the death of his father appears in a different score, "Mufasa's Death".

In the stage musical, the score is titled "The Stampede". Like the film score version of "Stampede", it does not include the score heard as Simba mourns his father, but rather the music played during the stampede scene.

  • The track's official cue in the musical is "Stampede - Part 1".[1]
