Simba's presentation is the anointing ceremony of Simba. Since the film's release, it has become an iconic moment.

Information

The Lion King

Background

Simba is born to Mufasa and Sarabi, slated to be the next king of the Pride Lands. In honor of the cub's birth, Mufasa summons his subjects to Pride Rock with a ground-shaking roar.

Rafiki presents Simba to his future subjects

The animals gather below Pride Rock, and Mufasa watches proudly, encouraged by his loyal majordomo, Zazu. When all the guests have arrived, Rafiki makes his way through the crowd and climbs Pride Rock, where he embraces Mufasa and gets his first look at Simba.

Smiling down at the cub, Rafiki smears fruit juice and sprinkles sand across Simba's forehead, formally anointing the cub. He then takes the prince into his arms and holds him up atop Pride Rock, letting the Pridelanders get their first glimpse of their prince. Overjoyed, the animals explode into cheers and bow before their future king. Despite the enormous turnout, Mufasa's younger brother Scar purposefully does not show up, angered that he is no longer next in line to the throne.

Pumbaa during Simba's presentation

Background

While searching for a new home, Timon and Pumbaa stumble upon Pride Rock, where Simba is being presented to the Pridelanders. Pumbaa notices Rafiki holding Simba in the distance but Timon replies that it's "not important."

The Ceremony

When Timon and Pumbaa walk through the herd of animals witnessing the presentation of the newborn Simba, Pumbaa becomes a victim of his demophobia-triggered flatulence problem, and despite trying to escape the crowd, Timon pulls his tail in an attempt to keep him going. The terrible smell makes a few animals around them collapse, and the animals at the front see this and believe that the fallen animals are bowing, and soon, they are all bowing together, too.
