Simba's presentation was the ceremony in which Simba was anointed as Mufasa's heir to the throne of Pride Rock and formally presented to the animals of the Pride Lands.

Information[]

Background[]

Well, I was first in line...until the little hairball was born.
Scar on the birth of Simba[src]

Simba was born to Mufasa and his mate, Sarabi. As such, Simba was expected to become the next king of the Pride Lands. Simba's birth was received poorly by Mufasa's younger brother, Scar, who would have been next in line for the throne were it not for Simba's birth. In honor of his son's birth, Mufasa summoned his subjects to Pride Rock for a viewing ceremony.[1]

The ceremony[]

Timon: He-he-hey! It's the monkey!
Pumbaa: What's that he's holdin' up?
Timon: Awww, who cares? It's not important.

Rafiki presents Simba to the Pride Landers.

One morning, the Pride Landers gathered below Pride Rock to watch the presentation of Simba. Zazu, Mufasa's majordomo, arrived and bowed before Mufasa, who overlooked the crowd. When all the guests had assembled, Rafiki, the Royal Mjuzi of the Pride Lands, made his way through the crowd and ascended Pride Rock, where he embraced Mufasa and met Simba. Rafiki smeared gourd juice and sprinkled sand on Simba's forehead, formally anointing him as Mufasa's heir. He then took Simba into his arms and held him up at the promontory of Pride Rock for all the Pride Landers to see.[1]

Meanwhile, Timon and Pumbaa approached Pride Rock in search of Timon's dream home. Pumbaa noticed Rafiki holding Simba, but Timon believed the event to be unimportant. The two began forcing their way through the crowd of animals in an attempt to reach a clearing on the other side. As they mingled with the Pride Landers, Pumbaa felt a wave of flatulence coming on. He tried to escape the crowd, but Timon forced him to remain.

Pumbaa's inadvertent flatulence at Simba's presentation causes the animals in attendance to collapse.

Eventually, Pumbaa broke wind, which caused several animals around him and Timon to collapse unconscious. When the animals at the front saw this, they believed that the fallen animals were bowing and therefore mimicked them. From atop Pride Rock, Zazu commented to Mufasa that the Pride Landers were bowing before the "royal son."[2] Many Pride Landers also started cheering.

Despite the enormous turnout, Scar purposefully did not attend the ceremony, as he was angered at being replaced as the next in line to the throne. This did not escape Mufasa's notice, who shortly afterwards sent Zazu ahead to announce Mufasa's visit to his brother.[1]
