"One of Us" is a song from The Lion King II: Simba's Pride sung by the African animals as they are driving Kovu out of the Pride Lands. After Simba returns alive and injured from the ambush, he is convinced that Kovu was a part of it. As a result, he refuses to listen to Kovu's reason and exiles him.

Animals:

Deception
Disgrace
Evil as plain as the scar on his face

Zebras:

Deception (An outrage!)

Giraffes:

Disgrace (For shame!)

He asked for trouble the moment he came

Animals:

(See you later, agitator!)
Born in grief
Raised in hate
Helpless to defy his fate
Let him run
Let him live
But do not forget
What we cannot forgive

And he is not one of us
He has never been one of us
He is not part of us
Not our kind

Someone once lied to us
Now we're not so blind
For we knew he would do what he's done
And we know that he'll never be one, of us

One animal (female) (possibly antelope):

He is not one of us

TriviaEdit

  • The part of the song, "Someone once lied to us...now we're not so blind!" is an obvious reference to the deception of Scar, whom Kovu is constantly referred to throughout the movie as his heir.
  • This is the only song to not have an equivalent to the first film, but lyrically, may reflect on Mufasa's death.
  • When Kovu sees Scar's reflection instead of his, it exactly the same image used in The Lion King, where Scar orders the hyenas to kill Simba after he himself kills Mufasa, merely distorted by the rippling water.
  • In the 1998 VHS release, there is an error in the closed captions. During the lines: "He is not one of us," the captions have Kiara's name. However, it does not mean Kiara sings the song.

CreditsEdit

  • Composer(s): Tom Snow
  • Lyrics By: Jack Feldman
