Guinea Fowl and Crab is a story from the Rafiki Remembers magazine collection. It was published in the 1990s as part of The Lion King: A Nature Fun and Learn Series.

Synopsis

Crab and Guinea Fowl are good friends who visit each other regularly. On occasion, Crab will ask Guinea Fowl to bring him some grain, and Guinea Fowl will send one of his children to fetch water from Crab. The two friends live like this for many years, but when a drought hits, they begin to quarrel.

The drought causes Guinea Fowl to have very little water, so he journeys to Crab's river to fill up an empty pitcher. When he arrives at the river, he asks Crab to fill up the pitcher for him, but Crab explains that his family needs the water to both drink and live in. Though angry, Guinea Fowl returns home.

For two months, the two friends do not see one another. Then a famine strikes, and Crab comes to Guinea Fowl asking for food. Furious, Guinea Fowl accuses Crab of begging for food when he had denied Guinea Fowl's family water, and he commands Crab to leave. Once more, Crab asks for food, but Guinea Fowl insults him so viciously that Crab has no choice but to leave. Since then, the two have not visited one another.
