Genets are a group consisting of 14-17 species, all of which are found in Africa, although only the common genet extends it range in France and the Iberian Peninsula.
Genets are slender, cat-like animals with long, ringed tails almost the length of their bodies. All genets are known to have a dark stripe along the spine, as well as musk glands. Their fur color and spot pattern differ among individuals. They also have large eyes with elliptical pupils, flexible ears that can move 80° from front to side, and wet noses which function for smell and touch.
Genets are highly agile and are expert climbers. Their main prey consists of insects and other invertebrates as well as small mammals or birds, but they will also eat fruit and plants. They are mostly solitary animals except when mating or raising offspring. A female genet can produce a litter of five offspring.
In The Lion King Universe
The Lion Guard encounters a group of genets while searching for the legendary Zimwi. The animals have never heard of the creature until Bunga describes it to them, frightening the genets in the process. The Lion Guard later encounters Thurston, who was previously frightened by the genets.
