Frogs are creatures that appear in The Lion King universe.

Frogs are known for their long hind legs and webbed toes, which enable them to swim. Their eyes are large and spaced widely apart, and their skin can be smooth or warty, depending on their kind. Like other amphibians, frogs have highly permeable skin through which oxygen can pass through.[1] This enables them to respire through their skin in places with little access to air.

In the Real World

The majority of frogs are born as tadpoles and develop into frogs later in their life cycle. However, some frogs, called "direct developers", are born as fully functioning frogs.[2] This allows them to be born away from water, in unusual habitats such as mountaintops.[2]

With the exception of Antarctica, frogs can be found on every continent, though they are inclined to live in warmer tropical areas.[2] They mainly live on a diet of insects and small animals, feeding on earthworms, minnows, and spiders.[2] Natural predators of the frog include birds, fish, lizards, and snakes.

In A King for the Frogs

In this folk tale by Rafiki, a group of frogs is making the lake a miserable place to live, as they are constantly croaking and laughing. Such disarray inspires an older frog to gather the group together and proclaim that they make themselves a grand king. With the group's consent, the wise frog asks one of the gods to promote a king over their lake.

In answer to the wise frog's prayer, the god throws a rock into the midst of the lake. At first, the frogs are quiet, creeping around their new king with care. However, when it becomes apparent that their "king" is only a rock, the frogs pick up their noisy habits once more.

Despairingly, the old frog appeals again to the god. This time, the god sends a new king to the lake, a king of great size, strength, and speed, a king who will promote peace and quiet for the rest of his days. This king is a crocodile, and a fierce crocodile at that. Since the start of his reign, the frogs have remained quiet and still in hopes that they will not be targeted by the great new king of the lake.

In An Unusual Choir

Simba hires a group of frogs to join his choir.
