Unnamed wife

The time has come to find myself a wife. Now that it is spring, I would like a friendly spouse and lots of little Toklets.
―Tok[src]

Tok is a male toktokkie beetle.

When Tok decided to find himself a wife, he searched far and wide for a suitable mate. However, when he had no luck, he decided to send out a message of his intentions to the other beetles. After a chance encounter with a bee, he learned that messages could be sent using dance. In this way, he attracted the attention of a female beetle, whom he took as his wife.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Tok lived in the savanna.[1]

Attracting a mate[]

When Tok decided that he would like to find himself a wife, he began to search the land for a suitable mate. That day, Tok walked around, looking for a wife, but come nightfall, he had had no luck. Exhausted, he lay down to rest and lamented his poor luck. Before falling asleep, however, he resolved to send out a message to the other beetles that he was looking for a wife.

Tok and bee

Tok gets advice from a passing bee.

The next day, Tok encountered a bee, who explained that he had been given a message about where flowers with pollen were located. Tok questioned how the bee had gotten the message, and the bee explained that the messenger had performed a dance to inform him of where the flowers were.

Tok decided to try dancing himself, but he fell on the first attempt. Eventually, he kept his balance and began to make a tapping sound as he danced. The noise attracted a female beetle, who explained that she had been curious about the "tok, tok, tok" noise she had heard. Pleased with the attention, Tok introduced himself to her and invited her to go on a walk with him. The two eventually got married. From that point onward, beetles mimicked Tok's dance to attract mates.[1]

Physical appearance[]

Tok is a rotund beetle, with a small head and spindly legs. He has reddish-brown skin, large yellow eyes, and two stunt antennae.[1]

Personality and traits[]

Tok is eager to please and craves attention. He will go to great lengths to achieve his goals and is willing to try unconventional means to solve his problems.[1]
