Kabeer is a male vulture. He is the leader of the Wake.
Kabeer and his associate, Krass, found the unconscious body of Scar in the gorge and resolved to eat him. Upon discovering that Scar was still alive, however, Kabeer instead schemed to help him seize the throne of Pride Rock so that his bloody reign would produce an abundance of food for vultures. As the first step in his plan, Kabeer plotted to introduce Scar to the "bone eaters."
Along with Krass, Kabeer approached Scar and urged him to fill a vacuum in the bone eaters' leadership so that he could use their numbers to seize the throne of Pride Rock. Together, Kabeer, Krass, and Scar journeyed to the Elephant Graveyard, where Scar revealed himself to the bone eaters, while Kabeer and Krass fled in terror.
Later, the Wake killed Queen Zuhour and her followers. As repayment for the vultures' help in his plot, Scar vowed to let them eat with impunity under his reign.

Alliance with Scar[]

One day, Kabeer and Krass witnessed Scar attempt to hunt Thema's son, only to get knocked into the gorge. For hours, Scar lay, unmoving, on the ground, and Kabeer and Krass circled him, wondering if he was dead. At last, Kabeer ordered Krass to check on Scar's status, and Krass reported that he was still breathing. Unaffected, Kabeer reasoned that it would not be long before Scar succumbed to his injuries. The two vultures proceeded to mock Scar for having been killed by "livestock" and for having lost the throne of Pride Rock to a cub.
At the mention of Simba, Kabeer iterated to Krass that Scar hated his brother, King Mufasa, but could not possibly beat him in battle. He continued that, were Scar to become the king of Pride Rock, his reign would be characterized by pride, greed, and revenge, and would thus create many carcasses for the vultures to feast upon. Drawing pictures in the dirt for Krass, Kabeer pointed out that they could feast on Scar's carcass if he died or take credit for saving him and help him become the king of Pride Rock if he lived. However, he deduced that they would need to offer Scar something in order to convince him. Instantly, both he and Krass suggested recruiting the "bone eaters."
Just then, Rafiki approached and drove the two vultures away with his staff. Later, after Scar had recovered at Rafiki's tree, Kabeer and Krass resolved to introduce him to the bone eaters.[1]
Come daytime, Kabeer and Krass witnessed Scar have a tense confrontation with the lionesses. Once the lionesses had left, the vultures approached Scar, and Kabeer dismissed the lionesses as "ungrateful females." Scar pointed out that the lionesses filled his belly and asked what purpose the vultures served. At this, Kabeer formally introduced himself and Krass, and told Scar that they could help him become king. Though reluctant to believe that the vultures had anything valuable to say, he prompted them for elaboration, and they urged him to form an alliance with the "bone eaters."
Scar argued that bone eaters, or hyenas, were beyond reproach, but Krass explained that they were friends with a bone eater, and Kabeer added that Scar could lead the hyenas, as they were unhappy with their leadership. Though intrigued, Scar asked how the vultures would benefit from his alliance with the hyenas, and Kabeer claimed that they wanted to see the Pride Lands' rightful heir on the throne. Incited, Scar demanded that Kabeer stop patronizing him, and Kabeer hastily backtracked, clarifying that they wanted food and a seat in the royal court.
Satisfied with Kabeer's answer, Scar allowed the vultures to lead him to the Elephant Graveyard. Once there, Kabeer warned Krass and Scar that a large group of hyenas was close by, but Scar refused to hide. He relented, however, when he realized that they could have the element of surprise. Once in hiding, Krass asked Kabeer what he had seen, and he pointed out the queen of the bone eaters standing among her clan.[2]
As Kabeer, Krass, and Scar looked on, Queen Zuhour cast the bones and declared that they had chosen Shenzi. A confrontation broke out between Shenzi and Zuhour, during which Kabeer and Krass informed Scar that Shenzi was their bone eater friend. To their horror, Scar roared and began to stride through the gathered hyenas. From his back, Kabeer and Krass urged him to leave, but he contended that it was too late for him to run and that "affluence favored the bold." Kabeer claimed that, since they had introduced Scar to the bone eaters, they had fulfilled their end of the bargain, and he agreed. He warned them that they would miss his rise to power should they leave, but they fled the scene in terror nonetheless. As they flew away, Scar remarked that he would have done the same, and Shenzi added that they would pick over what was left, after she and Scar had been eaten.[3]
Later, after Scar knocked Zuhour into the gorge, Kabeer led his fellow vultures in an attack on her and her followers. As the battle raged down below, Kabeer asked Scar if they had done well, and he conceded that they had been competent. To Kabeer and Krass's delight, he then vowed to let them eat with impunity under his reign.[4]

Both vultures prefer "main courses" to leftovers.[1] Despite being friends with a hyena, Kabeer is deathly afraid of them.[2] He is ultimately a coward who leaves his dirty work to others and will betray his associates if it is in his best interest.[3]
