Why the Warthog is Ugly

You should always be grateful for what is done for you, lion cubs. Even a lion can fall from grace.

The Lion's House is a story from the Rafiki Remembers magazine collection. It was published in the 1990s as part of The Lion King: A Nature Fun and Learn Series.

Synopsis[]

The king of the jungle, Lion, is too distracted by his duties to build himself a new house, so his subjects decide to take it upon themselves to improve his living conditions. By working together, they construct a beautiful house, one which they are quite proud of, and wait eagerly for their king to return home. However, when Lion sees his new house, he merely walks inside and shuts the door behind him without one word of thanks.

Stirred up by their king's reaction, the animals congregate and agree to send a monkey as a messenger to Lion, but he merely kills the monkey, outraged at being summoned like a commoner. This is the last straw for the animals, who wage war against Lion. With Lion fleeing before him, Elephant tramples the beautiful new house to the ground, and the animals elect him to be their new king instead of Lion.
