Fellas! Fellas! Where's the king? Where'd he go?
―Haraka to Rafiki and Zazu on Simba[src]

Haraka is a male ostrich.

Haraka attempted to inform Simba that the mandrills in Grass Walls were in peril. However, in Simba's absence, Haraka passed on the message to Rafiki, who decided to journey to Grass Walls himself to help his former troop.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Haraka lived in the Pride Lands.[1]

Message from Grass Walls[]

All I can say for sure is that the baboons in Grass Walls are in deep trouble. Gotta go! Gotta go!
―Haraka[src]

When Simba left to settle a dispute between Nassor and Pembe, Haraka rushed up to Rafiki and Zazu, demanding to know where the king had gone. Zazu informed Haraka that the king had gone to talk with the elephants, then asked what was going on. Haraka breathlessly announced that he had bad news, and Rafiki gently prompted the ostrich to continue. Haraka stumbled over his words for a moment but finally told them that it concerned the "baboons."

Interested, Rafiki leaned forward and asked where the mandrills were. Haraka told him that they were in "Fast Falls," then corrected himself and said, "Grass Walls." Rafiki asked what was going on, and Haraka tried hard to remember what the mandrills were having trouble with. He contemplated locusts being the cause of the problem, then hyenas, then wondered if it was both. He began going into a spiral of guesses until Rafiki finally demanded him to think, for it was important. Haraka, still confused, admitted that he did not remember and that all he knew was that the mandrills were in deep trouble. With a hasty goodbye, he took off.[1]

Physical appearance[]

Haraka is a moderately sized ostrich. He has a dark gray body, long legs, a white neck, a white tail, and dark gray wings with white tips.[1]

Personality and traits[]

Haraka: It's, uh...uh...oh, golly. I want to get this right. It's about the baboons!
Rafiki: Baboons! Where?
Haraka: Fast Falls! No, wait. Make that Grass Walls. The baboons in Grass Walls are in big trouble!
—Haraka and Rafiki[src]

Haraka is absent-minded and gossipy. His long legs get him around the Pride Lands quickly, which leads to him learning and passing along stories to others. He also has trouble focusing, as seen when Rafiki kept prompting him for information about the mandrills in Grass Walls.[1]

Appearances[]

Trivia[]

  • Haraka's name means "fast, quickly, swiftly, speedily" in Swahili.[2]
