OUAT Timon & Pumbaa43

Timon and Pumbaa on a pile of grubs during the "Alone Together" sequence.

"Alone Together" is the fourth song heard in The Lion King's Timon & Pumbaa. It starts as Timon and Pumbaa relax on a log after introducing themselves to each other and catching a grub. Timon then hears Pumbaa's breaking-wind, which Pumbaa tries to deny. Unable to hide it any longer, Pumbaa confesses to Timon that he has a notorious gas problem, which has led him to become alienated from other animals, making him sad and lonely. Understanding Pumbaa's situation, Timon tells the warthog that he was banished from his meerkat colony and that he is now stranded, and thinks that in a cold and mean world, the two of them should be alone together, that two heads are better than one. Hearing what Timon is saying correctly, Pumbaa is happy to finally find someone who can accept him, and Timon and Pumbaa decide to suffer their loneliness together in friendship.[2]

Lyrics[]

Pumbaa:
Excuse me!
Excuse me!
Excuse me!
It seems I'm always saying, "Pardon me!"
I'm tired of feeling so dismayed
It seems that everywhere I go
They hold their nose and tell me, "Go away!"

Timon: (spoken)
Away?

Pumbaa: (spoken)
Away.

Timon: (spoken)
That bad, huh?

Pumbaa: (spoken)
It stinks!

Timon: (spoken)
Tell me about it.

Pumbaa: (spoken)
Okay.

Pumbaa:
I've developed a strong reputation
A malodorous asphyxiation
Which has led to my alienation
I'm lonely, I'm sad, and I stink

Timon:
Yeah, well, now that we're being so candid
I can say that I, too, have been branded
I was banished, and here, I am stranded
But, buddy, you know what I think?

The world out there can be so cold and mean
But you and me with two heads is better than one man, who, with no island, uh
You know what I mean?

Pumbaa: (spoken)
Huh?

Timon:
Timon and Pumbaa, Timon and Pumbaa
That sorta has a catchy ring, whee!
Timon and Pumbaa, Timon and Pumbaa
It sorta makes you wanna sing
We could be lonely, out here forever
Just thinking 'bout it makes me sad
But Timon and Pumbaa, alone together
Somehow that doesn't sound so bad

Pumbaa:
Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-oooh, I hear what you're saying correctly
You can cherish and love and respect me
We could eat little harmless insecties
And become the bestest of friends

Timon:
I don't wanna go bursting your bubble
I'm just saying, we'll stay out of trouble
If the two of us pair up in double
(spoken) But don't ever touch me again!

Pumbaa: (spoken)
Sorry.

Timon: (spoken)
Sing.

Timon and Pumbaa:
Timon and Pumbaa, Timon and Pumbaa

Pumbaa:
A meerkat and a big warthog

Timon and Pumbaa:
Timon and Pumbaa, Timon and Pumbaa

Timon:
No finer pair of underdogs

Timon and Pumbaa:
No longer lonely, out here forever
No matter how it came to pass
Timon and Pumbaa, Timon and Pumbaa
When we're together, it's a gas
Timon and Pumbaa, Timon and Pumbaa
When we're together, it's a gas!
