Zazu is an excellent teacher. You should be proud to be tutored by him. And do you know why? Zazu is of royal blood! He is a king, just as I am!
Mufasa to Simba[src]

A Royal Fib is a German comic inspired by The Lion King. It was published by Ehapa Verlag on September 28, 1999.

Synopsis[]

In the middle of one of Zazu's royal lessons, Simba attempted to wander away. Zazu refused to let the cub leave and declared that even "spoiled princes" should reject a life of luxury, but Simba simply used Zazu's words against him by asserting that he was a prince, whereas Zazu was only his teacher. Zazu bemoaned having to constantly put up with Simba pulling rank on him, which caught the attention of Simba's father, Mufasa. When Simba again tried to escape Zazu's lesson, Mufasa intercepted him and forced him to return to his schooling. He then lied to Simba that Zazu was actually an exiled king from a faraway land, Birdistan, and was therefore deserving of Simba's respect.

Together, Mufasa and Zazu departed, and Mufasa assured Zazu that Simba would be more respectful from then on. Meanwhile, Simba mused over the lie and doubted the legitimacy of his father's claim. At first, he resigned himself to obeying Zazu's every command, but upon seeing two birds circling overhead, he hatched a plan.

Shortly afterward, the same two birds approached Zazu and bowed before him, declaring him to be the long-lost king of Birdistan. As Zazu listened in shock, the birds informed him that his evil uncle had been driven away and that the kingdom of Birdistan was awaiting his return. They then took off with calls for him to return home as soon as possible. In a panic, Zazu rushed to Mufasa and related the news. Mufasa realized that his lie had spread rapidly and ordered Zazu to find Birdistan and clear up the misunderstanding.

Across the savanna, Simba laughed alongside the two phony messenger birds, whom he had sent to trick Zazu, and proclaimed that Zazu would be gone for at least two weeks. Mufasa happened to overhear the conversation and accused Simba of having purposefully misled Zazu. He then lectured Simba on giving Zazu the respect he deserved and pointed out that a prince should respect his teacher, with or without a fancy title. However, as the two walked away, Mufasa reflected on having been the one to lie first.

Two weeks later, Zazu returned to the Pride Lands, and Simba apologized for having lied to him. Though disgruntled, Zazu was pleased to find that his student was respecting him and that the reception he received from the Pride Landers was enough to make him feel like a king.
