Sometimes when things are wrong, drastic measures have to be taken to put them right. This is what happened when the frogs became far too noisy and quarrelsome.

A King for the Frogs is a story from the Rafiki Remembers magazine collection. It was published in the 1990s as part of The Lion King: A Nature Fun and Learn Series.

Synopsis

A large group of frogs becomes so disruptive and noisy that an older frog gathers the group together and proclaims that they make themselves a grand king. With the group's consent, the wise frog asks one of the gods to promote a king over their lake. In answer to the wise frog's prayer, the god throws a rock into the midst of the lake.

At first, the frogs are quiet, creeping around their new king with care. However, when the rock remains silent and stationary, a young frog dares to touch it, and the group realizes that it is nothing more than a frog-shaped stone. No longer afraid, the frogs pick up their noisy habits once more, and the old frog appeals again to the god.

This time, the god sends a new king to the lake, a king of great size, strength, and speed, a king who will promote peace and quiet for the rest of his days. This king is a crocodile, and a fierce crocodile at that. Since the start of his reign, the frogs have remained quiet and still in the hopes that they will not be targeted by the great new king of the lake.
